Master of Fine Arts positions itself as cultivating high-level application vocal talents, which includes increasing the practical and comprehensive knowledge of performing,. The teaching of MFA becomes more effective through variety of curriculum and a wide range of vocalistic practice with the cooperation of foreign countries. During the past five years, in addition to the corresponding curriculum as a foundation, the School of Music adopted the method of opera rehearsal requiring all of the vocal students to participate in which pays attention to the functions of practice in the base of combining the theory and practice. Opera is a play with music in which all the words are sung. It integrates the artistic elements of music, literature, drama, dance, role playing and stage art design. Different from other performing arts, opera performance requires that the players must have good singing ability, understanding of plot and character, as well as abilities of aesthetic perception and stage expression. The singers are required to own a high standard of singing ability owing to the difficulty of performing complete opera, segments of opera or the arias solo. This art practice provides a good platform for those who owns the overall quality containing individual and teamwork ability. In this thesis, the author expounds her learning and practical experiences in China and abroad, and discusses the effect of different educational concepts employed in opera rehearsal in China and abroad on her learning process. The thesis is divided into four parts.Part one Introduction presents the reason for thesis topic choice, meaning of the study, present status of research and the innovation of the thesis.Chapter One introduces the objectives of MFA in China, European countries and the original personnel training intention of Shaanxi Normal University. There is no fixed pattern of the MFA training objectives nationwide, each university has a set of curriculum which contains both compulsory subjects and distinctive art practice according to their advantageous teaching resource.Chapter Two discusses the reasons to include opera rehearsal in the training of master of arts and its help in elevating MFA candidates’ comprehensive music quality. This part, as a core of this paper, elaborates the necessity and the effect of opera rehearsal, and to research the feedback information as well.Chapter Three uses author’s own experience in MFA program to discuss the advantages of opera rehearsal. |
