The Application And Innovation Of The Film-cutting Process Of The Rubber Back Art Tapestry Design

The sculpting craft is one of the six processes-which are weaving, flattening, sculpting, cutting, washing and trimming-in handmade carpet, and it is an exclusive post-processing technique in Chinese handmade carpet and tapestry. After the process of the sculpting craft, the handmade carpet and tapestry shall reveal a strong three-dimensional sense of flowers, a sense of full patterns and an ultra-strong sense of relief, and they are praised as "soft sculpture" The craftsman can create smooth pattern levels based on the pattern positions, depth and angles. It relies on not only the craftsman’s operating skills but also the carpet designer’s super-strong control over the artistic effect created in the sculpting craft process.As an important traditional craft for carpet post-processing, the sculpting craft has been inherited by folk artists in the master-prentice mode for generations, and there has been very few comprehensive and detailed monographic study about it. How to reasonably apply the sculpting craft to the latex backed tapestry? All the involved content may seem easy, but it shall directly relate to the final effect of the tapestry. The latex backed tapestry designers should be familiar with the application rules of the sculpting craft, and then they can play their cards right in the design.It is a frontier and innovation research to study the use of the sculpting craft in the design of modern latex backed tapestry, especially under the modern cultural aesthetic demands when the pattern subjects of the latex backed carpet and tapestry require not only concrete flowers and landscape but also more abstract patterns in favor of spirit interpretation. The sculpting craft was used to express pattern outlines and shapes, but now researches should focus on how to reasonably and properly apply the sculpting craft to the modern latex backed tapestry design, so as to provide the designers with theoretical framework and basis, and then help the designers create more artistic-and-practical good works as well as more high-value-added products earning their rightful places in the highly competitive international market. All the above shall need a systematic research on the application and innovation rules of the sculpting craft.First of all, this paper compares the handmade carpet with machine-made carpet, then analyzes and extracts the artistic characteristics of the latex backed tapestry, and then explains the importance of the sculpting craft in the design of the latex backed tapestry; secondly, this paper shall analyze the major application methods used to apply the sculpting craft in the design of the latex backed tapestry; thirdly, this paper summarizes the basic application rules and operation methods of the sculpting craft, and then based on the author’s actual design cases during her internship, this paper analyzes the relationships and detailed application rules between the sculpting craft and the pattern shape design, between the sculpting craft and the picture colors, between the sculpting craft and the carpet surface pile height; and finally, this paper analyzes the social aesthetic changes, then concludes that we need to not only inherit but also innovatively apply the sculpting craft, and then the author provides plenty of practical cases for further analysis and explanation.
