In the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, the teaching of language and culture are inseparable. As a part of Chinese culture, poetry should be integrated into the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. In recent years, the teaching of poetry is more and more emphasized, accompanied with richer and richer poetry teaching methods. Meanwhile, as the bilateral exchanges of China and Lao goes increasingly close, more and more Laos begin to learn Chinese and Chinese culture. Lao Students think Chinese poetry difficult to understand, and Chinese teachers see many difficulties in poetry teaching. What poetry pedagogy for Chinese poetry teaching is the primary problem. Traditional poetry teaching method is a reliable choice, but reciting poetry teaching method can also be used as a new attempt. As a Chinese ancient poetry-reading way, chant has been widely used in the teaching in China, but it has not yet been effectively in use abroad. Thus, with previous research results as well as some of her own teaching thought, and with the research object of Chinese learners in the initial stage of Laos, the author explores the ancient poetry teaching in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. This article consists of six parts:As an introduction, the first part describes the cause and significance of the topic, and the current research of poetry teaching methods is reviewed. At the same time, the investigation and analysis before teaching practice are introduced.The second part is an introduction to Chinese poetry teaching methods. The poetry pedagogies of traditional, song style and reciting style are introduced.The third part is practical cases analysis of traditional Chinese poetry teaching methods. Laos Primary Class A as the practice object, a series of instructional design is conducted, and classroom feedback is observed from the teaching process, for the result of the pros and cons analysis.The fourth part is practical cases analysis of reciting-style Chinese poetry teaching methods. Laos Elementary Class B as the practice object, a series of instructional design is conducted, and classroom feedback is observed from the teaching process, for the result of the pros and cons analysis.The fifth part is comparative analysis of the teaching effects of the traditional and reciting methods, which includes a comparison in the class feedback between Laos Elementary Class A and Class B, and a comparison in the Lao Students’ perceptions on Ancient Chinese poems before and after teaching practice.The sixth part is the summary and reflections of poetry teaching methods research with a whole brief overview.
