Fu Shan is an eminent scholar in late Ming and early Qing, who was honored to be personage of artistic encyclopedia by the people at that time. He had not only spent time widely reading Confucian classics, historical records, philosophical essays by sages over Pre-Qin period and massive literary works, but also good at Calligraphy, painting, traditional Chinese medical skill, fist position and so on. In most of these fields he got great accomplishments. His research on the essays of pre-Qin philosophers plays an important role in the history of academic studies and intellectual history, which has a far-reaching influence on the later historiography. His study on Xunzi is one of the representatives. In this thesis, the research methods including documentation study, inductive and the summary,comparison and others were used comprehensively so as to achieve a more comprehensive, systematic and in-depth research on the study of Xunzi by Fu Shan.The thesis consisted of six parts:The introduction mainly expounds the current research status of the topic including at home and abroad, relative research methods and ideas.The first chapter analyzes the background of the research on Xunzi by Fu Shan. This part will discuss in three aspects including the historical background, the academic background and personal circumstances, the three of which are able to reveal the basic reason for the development and maturity of his academic ideas.The second chapter analyzes the methods of the collation and annotation on Xun Zi by Fu Shan. This part is going to explore the research object in four respects: explaining the words, redressing the error on the sentences and phrases, commenting on the former annotations, analyzing the article structures and the sentence patterns. By this way, we can understand the details of achievements on collation and annotation by Fu Shan.The third chapter analyzes the methods of the interpretation on Xunzi by Fu Shan. This part will illuminate the object in four respects: exploring the human nature thoughts of Xunzi by Fu Shan, interpreting the "Following the descendants of the monarchs " thoughts of Xunzi by Fu Shan, interpreting the relationships between Xunzi and other schools in the pre-Qin by Fu Shan and the criticism of Xunzi by Fu Shan. By this way, we can summarize the contribution to the interpretation of Xunzi by Fu Shan.The fourth chapter analyzes the characteristics of the research on Xun Zi by Fu Shan. This part summarized its three characteristics: the equality of the Confucian classics and the essays by pre-Qin philosophers; learning wildly from other's strong points and putting them together to make the best way as possible, and the research of annotating. By this way, we can grasp the characteristics of the research on Xunzi by Fu Shan on the whole.The fifth chapter is mainly commenting on the research of Xunzi by Fu Shan as a whole. This part mainly was divided into the following five aspects: the contribution to style; the contribution to philology; the inspiration from the studying attitude and methods of Fu Shan; the drawbacks to the study on Xunzi by Fu Shan. The author found the differences by comparing Fu Shan with Qian-jia School, and then summarized the influence of Fu Shan's study on Xunzi for succeeding generations.
