In this paper, according to the research on the relationships between the theme painting and historical environment, it talks how to go on the theme painting calmly and correctly for the contemporary artists and express their own opinions.Western paintings have experienced the medieval times, the Renaissance, the Baroque, the Rococo, Neoclassicism romanticism, realism, until now the long development course. In each phase, the forms of the thematic art are different,but the content bases on the pursuit of liberation, praising the power of the people, fighting for equality and criticizing the reality. This paper is about the development for western paintings, according to several important historical stages we talked above.Then choose some art pieces as the research objects. Based on time, on the painting of the typical thematic analysis, combined with political and economic history for the study of the carrier, view and in combination with their research direction, it is relatively clear in this paper. The thematic paintings records the course of social development, in the whole history of human civilization.
