Research On The Literature And Culture Of The Gao Family Of The Wei And Jin Dynasties

Gaoping Xi clan got prosperity in the Wei and Jin Period,it had a profoundinfluence on the polity,military and culture.This thesis studied the origin andevolution of family and the process of the prosper and decline,especifically,discussedthe remarkable characteristics of family literature by the method of case stuy,such asXi Chao,Xi Tan,etc.Then summarized the literature and culture in common.Although the clan of Xi was Confucianism aristocracy,however,not flourishing tofading.It had gone through four stages of development from the late of Han to theEastern Jin Dynasty.Xi started in martial arts,then turned to study of literature and artsduring the Western and Eastern Jin Dynasty,finally reached its peak position by the XiChao's official career and the marriage and subjects between the clan of Xi andWang.Why their family declined at the end of Estern Jin Dynasty,there are threereasons:the first is early death of descendant;second is political struggle;third iscultural accomplishment.Xi's family took fief as a surname that derived from the clan of Qingyang,whichlocated at Bo County of Henei(today Qinyang County in Henan province).Inhistory,Xi experienced two times migration and finally settled in Jingkou nearby sincethe court of Jin drifted southward:one is from Bo to Gaoping County,another is fromGaoping to Jingkou.The clan of Xi had changed its family tradition of Confucianism after the EasternJin Dynasty,although it maintained in long-term.Xi Lv took Zheng Xuan as theteacher at the end of the Han Dynasty,then he was regarded highly by Cao Cao andthe reputation and status was well known at that time.Xi's family went on the politicalstage by virtue of military exploits and clan forces during the Weastern and EasternJin Dynasty.In the middle of Eastern Jin Dynasty,the posterity has been risingconstantly and went on a mixed road of literature and art simultaneously:such as XiYin believed in Magiciam Taoism,Xi Chao took part in The Literature Group of HuanWen and the Buddhist activities,Xi Tan indulged into the leisurely strolling and TheLanting Assembly with celebrities,etc.These creativities created opportunities forfamily members communicated with celebrities at that time and brought a reputation for the promotion of culture and politic.Xi Chao is a representative figure in the Xi's family.His article Feng fa yao???????,one of important works in the histoy of Buddhism theory,aimed to reconcilecontradictions between Buddhism and Confucianism.The other works of Xi clan alsopresented the characteristics of scholar culture:The Poem of Answering Fu lang????????showed a Buddhist meaning that “Wisdom acesses to the God”, Lan TingPoetry???????reflected the style of leisurely elegant of Metaphysics celebrities,Crusading against the Rally of Su Jun?????????performanced the familytraditin of confucians scholar abided by etiquette and music culture.They were allinjected fresh blood into the multi-culture and characteristics of Gaoping Xi.Xi's family gradually formed its own unique cultural characteristics in theprocess of historical development,specifically performanced:The concept ofconpensation and public property Is a set of family system established, it aslo acted asa basic guarantee of fame family of Confucianism; Whether within the choxdox or thefamily,The loyal thought closely related to confucianism tradition, being as the maincontents of the education of its members;The clan of Xi researchedBuddhism,Taoism,and other cultures;It won a good reputation because many familymembers are versatility in painting,postscript works and quite exquisite calligraphyart.The literature of Xi clan has distinct features,its development gradually maturedand diversified.The art of practical style can follow the principle of “tender andgentle”,not straight cut open,and basically reached the implicit artistic effect.Mostsentence patterns are four or five words,literary style is natural and plain,and purposeis to maintain the Confucian ceremony.Buddhist poetry takes form with four or fivewords and harmonious tones,article writing has intense speculative and the taste ofBuddhist sutras.Metaphysical poetry has fresh and elegant style,abundant emotion andmeaning,also rich in a variety of semantics by using metaphor, symbol and otherartistic techniques.
