The colleges and universities are the cradle to foster the cream of society for the country,and the students play an important part in the country construction. Therefore, higher educationis to put emphasis on the improvement of students’ comprehensive quality and to foster thehighly competitive talents. As a form of the quality education, Vocal music education plays anirreplaceable role in higher school education.Like other artistic forms, the vocal artistic form also requires the students owing strongcomprehension and rich imagination that can express the work perfectly. And the ability ofcomprehension and imagination can be gained through strengthening the management ofpractical vocal teaching to improve student’s overall qualities and creative abilities. It’s obviousthat vocal music education is a useful form, which can be easily popularized in higher schools.Besides, accepting vocal music education is the way to develop college students’ overall quality.But now, traditional teaching method of vocal music can’t accord with the demands of neweducation situation. To strengthen the application of practical teaching and optimize curriculumstructure is the key to improving the teaching efficient in vocal music.This paper is based on the investigation about the vocal music department in higher collegesin Jiaozuo city, Henan province. By applying the theory of musicology, pedagogy and usingin-depth investigation,the author analyzes the content of the vocal music education,the teachingorganization forms,the existing problems in development process then puts forward the ideas onvocal teaching reform and development of music departments.
