The Study Of Four-word Poetry In The Han Dynasty

The thesis project study the four-word-poem of the Han Dynasty, scholars usually pay attention to the Yue-Fu poems and The Nineteen ancient Poems of Han dynasty, instead of the four-word-poem of the Han Dynasty. Acorrding to this circumstance, the author of this dissertation first tries to investigate the four-word-poem, study its development rule and its literary value, then analyses some well-known works. The development of the four-word-poem of Han Dynasty have its reasons:The one hand, its four-character connected with the concept of "Zong-jing" which worship classical Books of Confucianism in Han Dynasty, on the other hand, Compared with The Book of Songs,the four-charcter verse of the Han Dynasty carried on The Book of Songs’s traits in some aspects and simultaneously it had changed a lot.The sacred poems in Han Dynasty carried on most of solemn and serene traits of The Book of Songs, some literary poetry like satire poems (Feng Jian,讽谏)made by Wei Meng(韦孟)also originated from the ode of The Book of Songs which theme was imbongi. Some four-word-poem in the Eastern Han Dynsaty reflected person’s differensive feeling of life. Four-word-poem of the Han Dynasty had its stylistic changes compared with The Book of Songs, the formal changes were reflected in vocabulary,structure,artistically expressive means and the relation of the poetry and the music, etc.At the same time, this dissertation also pay close attention to all the available materials that out of tradition sights, included the formal admonition(箴),inscription(铭),encomium(赞),eulogy(颂),the dirge pronounced over the dead (诔) and many other styles.These four-character verses became independent applied literary forms bcause of their own usage.
