Purpose: Objective Safflower Injection was applied for patients suffering from the edema of upper limbs after the radical operation of breast cancer.By evaluating the improvements of the upper limb circumference of the diseased limb, the edema grading and the clinical effect of the patients before and after treatment, the clinical effect of Safflower Injection in treating the lymphedema of upper limbs after the radical operation of breast cancer was evaluated,so as to provide clinical basis for applying traditional Chinese medicines in treating the lymphedema of upper limbs after the radical operation of breast cancer in clinic in the future.Material and method: Methods A total of 49 patients who accepted the radical operation of breast cancer in Liaoning Provincial Cancer Hospital from January 2015 to October 2016 and suffered from postoperative edema of upper limbs were selected, aging from 31 to 64 years old.The enrolled subjects were divided into observation group(n=25)and control group(n=24)according to the operation time and random number table. The subjects in both groups all accepted the postoperative conventional treatment for edema of upper limbs after the operation of breast cancer in our department, including low-salt diet, compression therapy of elastic bandage and pressure bandaging, functional exercise of upper limbs under the compression therapy, physical therapy of diseased limb, etc. The observation group was treated by the intravenous drip of Safflower Injection with the successive administration for 30 days. The fertilization and edema severity of upper limbs were compared between the patients in both groups,so as to evaluate the clinical effect of Safflower Injection on the lymphedema of upper limbs after the radical operation of breast cancer. Results: 1.There were no significant differences between the subjects in both groups in the age of onset, the occurrence time of edema of upper limbs after the radical operation of breast cancer and the severity of edema of upper limbs(P >0.05).2.Comparison of biological indexes: Before treatment, the test values of upper limb circumference, forearm circumference and edema severity of the diseased limb were in close distribution between the subjects in both groups(P >0.05).After the end of treatment, the test values of upper limb circumference, forearm circumference and edema severity of the diseased limb in the observation group were obviously lower than those before treatment and those in the control group of the same period(P <0.05).3.Comparison of indexes for clinical effect: In the observation group, there was significant effect in 5 cases(20.00%)and effect in 16 cases(64.00%)with the total effective rate of 84.00%,there was no effect in 4 cases(16.00%),and it was obviously better than those in the control group. Conclusion: 1.Safflower Injection can improve the circumference of upper limbs suffering from postoperative lymphedema after the radical operation of breast cancer.2.Safflower Injection can improve the edema severity of upper limbs after the radical operation of breast cancer.3.Safflower Injection has a definite clinical effect in treating breast cancer andimproving postoperative lymphedema after the radical operation.
