Objective Coronary artery ectasia is characterized by inappropriate dilatation of the coronary arteries. The most commonly used angiographic definition of CAE is the diameter of the ectatic segment being more than 1.5 times larger compared with an adjacent healthy reference segment or the biggest coronary artery. It has been found in 1-5%during coronary angiography. There have been some clinical and basic researches about the coexist with ectasia of other vessels, such as Veins of lower extremity, venae spermatica, the aorta and main branches of aorta. The co-existence of ectasia in both the coronary arteries and the aorta suggests that there may be a common mechanism between them.We hope to study the morbidity of ascending aortic dilatation in CAE group compare with non CAE group. We wonder if they are different symptoms of a certain disease. Methods Our patients were selected from those who had undergone a coronary angiography during January 2009and May 2014 in our hospital. All of them had typical angina or positive or equivocal results of noninvasive screening tests for myocardial ischemia. Those who had a localized or diffused luminal dilation exceeding 1.5-fold of the normal adjacent arterial segment were enrolled into CAE group, among these patients who don' t coexist with CAD were selected in group A,the others were enrolled into group C.Then we select a matching group B for group A,into which all patients have a normal coronary angiography. And we finally get 83 patients in group A and B.By the mean time,we select a matching group D for group C in the same conditions, into which all patients have coronary artery disease.Group C and D were both consist of 474 patients. The patients' medical history and physician-administered physical examination information were obtained from the hospital' s medical records.AADpred=1.52+(ageyrss*0.01)+(Heightcm*0.01)-(sex1=M,2=F*0.25),we use the ratio AAD/AADpred to describe the degree of ascending aorta dilation.Ratio greater than 1 is defined as the expansion. We first analyze the difference of ascending aorta dilation between CAE and non CAE group, and then we focus the difference between the four subgroups. Results All patients have similar age among the four groups, and there are more male than female. The morbidity and degree of ascending aorta dilation are larger in CAE group than non CAE group.Odds ratio is 1.70 for the risk of coexist with ascending aorta dilation between CAE and non CAE group, and it didn' t change when we adjust factors including aortic regurgitation, mitral regurgitation. These four groups have different AAD,the morbidity and degree of ascending aorta dilation, the degree and morbidity of aortic regurgitation and mitral regurgitation. Conclusion CAE group is more likely to coexist with larger ascending aorta than non CAE group, they may be different symptoms of a certain disease.Whether or not coexist with CAD do not increase the risk of ascending aorta dilation.
