Background:Diarrhea in children is a disease with frequency increase and trait change of excrement as the main symptoms induced by a variety of causes, and is one of the most common diseases during infancy, the incidence in China ranked second. According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report in 2009,1.5 million children die each year from diarrheal disease, and it is a leading cause of child death worldwide. Acute diarrhea can evoke dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, persistent diarrhea can lead to digestive dysfunction, malnutrition, growth and development delay, etc.. According to the classification of course of disease, children diarrhea can be divided into acute diarrhea, persistent diarrhea and chronic diarrhea; According to the cause of disease, it can be divided into infectious diarrhea and non-infectious diarrhea. And due to different pathogens, infectious diarrhea can be divided into bacterial infectious diarrhea and viral infectious diarrhea.Diarrhea in children is classified as "xiexie" category in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). And because of frequent insufficiency of pediatric spleen, encountering extraneous pathogenic factor or internal diet disorders is prone to disease. In pediatric clinical diagnosis and treatment, it is found that, the effect of syndrome differentiation treatment in TCM according to the cause of disease is quite good, especially for the common diarrhea in children of deficiency of spleen with damp abundance type, syndrome differentiation treatment in TCM is not only effective and inexpensive, but can also apparently improve the related syndromes.Lots of references indicate that "Qiwei Baizhu San" treatment of diarrhea disease in children has significant effect and is superior to some western medicine such as the intestinal mucosa protecter, and the comparative study of the microecological regulator remains to be explored. Objective:In this study, "Qiwei Baizhu San" scheme was used to treat diarrhea in children of deficiency of spleen with damp abundance type, and the Bifidobacterium Tetravaccine tablet was taken as the contrast. And through the observation of syndromes before and after the treatment, the advantages of "Qiwei Baizhu San" decoction in treatment of diarrhea in children of deficiency of spleen with damp abundance type were preliminary explored. Methods:This subject is a prospective study. The subjects were 68 cases of children patients diagnosed with diarrhea of deficiency of spleen with damp abundance type in the pediatric clinic of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Shijingshan District during June 2014 to September 2015. By the application of SPSS 17.0 software, these cases were randomly divided into treatment group and control group of 34 cases each, both with dietary guidance. The treatment group was treated with "Qiwei Baizhu San" decoction,1/3-1 dose daily, and the control group was given 1-3 oral Bifidobacterium Tetravaccine tablets,3 times a day. The syndromes before and after treatment of the children patients were observed and scored. All the data were analyzed by SPSS 17.0, and the paired t test was used for all the measurement data of the before and after treatment comparison of each group, while the independent sample t test was adopt for the comparison between the two groups. Chi-square test was used for the count data, and the rank sum test was used for the rank data.Result:1.Treatment effect comparison between the two groups:the total effective rate of the treatment group and the control group was 94.1% and 91.2% respectively. There was no statistical meaning of the difference in total effective rate between the two groups (Chi-square value=0.216, P=0.642>0.05); the difference in significant efficiency between the two groups had statistical meaning (Chi-square value=0.965, P=0.0150.05).2. Comparison between the scores of syndromes before and after treatment:differences existed in the scores of excrement frequency, excrement traits, course of diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, spirit, thirst, orexis, urine, facial features, and anus, which was statistically significant (P<0.05).3. Syndrome score comparison between the two groups on the third day after treatment:on the third day after treatment, the scores of abdominal pain, thirst, orexis, facial features were different between the treatment group and the control group, which was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:1. Treatment of diarrhea in children of deficiency of spleen with damp abundance type by "Qiwei Baizhu San" scheme had reliable effect.2. In the aspect of improvement of some related syndromes, the treatment group was better than the control group.
