Switched reluctance drive constitute a kind of novel drive system which is attached so many features such as simple construction, low cost, high efficiency, high reliability, controlling flexible and so on,through gathering the SRM,Technique of Modem Electronics and Microcomputer Control Technology perfectly. It was turning to become a hot point searched by specialists and applied by public society. This paper proposed a novel multilevel power converter for switched reluctance motor drive based on the exist four-level asymmetrical half bridge power converter to improve its system efficiency, dynamic property and reduce torque ripple.Compared to asymmetric half bridge power converter, the novel multilevel power converter added a boost circuit which can prove five voltage level including fast excitation mode, normal excitation mode, freewheeling, normal demagnetization mode, and fast demagnetization mode during the operation of the SRM.The design can reduce the risetime and decay time of phase current, decrease torque ripple apparently, improve system efficiency and dynamic property. This paper researched based on a 7.5KW three phase 12/8 SRM.Firstly, the drive system of asymmetric half bridge power converter and multilevel power converter was build respectively in MATLAB/Simulink.Secondly,after comparing the two drive systems,an experiment platform of 7.5KW SRM Multilevel power converter drive system was build.Through comparing simulation results, the correctness of the SRM module was obtain.Through simulation and experiment results, the correctness and feasibility of multilevel power converter was verified, which can reduce the risetime and decay time of phase current apparently, decrease torque ripple, improve system efficiency and dynamic property.
