As the demand of the building function, and the weak bearing capacity and lateral stiffness of a pure frame structure, the frame construction with a small amount of shear wall is widely adopted by structural engineer in seismic design. The seismic code offer different maximum elastic inter-story drift ratios for different structural systems. And its explanation items mandates that the few shear walls arranged in the frame structure are usually used to increase the stiffness of the frame structure and meet the requirements of the elastic inter-story drift angle. The elastic story drift limit of this structure should be interpolated for safety between the elastic floor displacement angle of frame structure and the elastic floor displacement angle of the frame shear-wall structure according to the Percentage of the overturning moment which the frame part bears. But so far how to understand the interpolation for safety is not given a specific interpretation.Currently the interpolation for safety is often interpreted as linear interpolation or hierarchical control interpolation. Previous research shows that for the frame structure mentioned by the current seismic design code whose torsional period ratio meets the requirement but inter-layer displacement angle not, a small amount of shear wall are arranged in frame structure to increase the lateral stiffness to meet the maximum elastic inter-story drift value, but the linear interpolation in practical engineering is controlled too strictly and difficultly to achieve. In this paper through the different arrangement of shear wall in the frame structure model such as different number, different positions and so on in the frame structure whose inter-layer displacement angle meets the requirement but torsional period ratio not, some characteristics about arrangement of a small amount of shear wall were obtained. At the same time the maximal floor displacement angles corresponding to the different percent of bottom overturning moment were compared with the values obtained by two methods of interpolation and analyzed. Research shows that: linear interpolation or hierarchical control interpolation in practicalengineering are still so strict that they are so difficult to achieve. Through extensive reading and collecting relevant research results at home and abroad, the maximum elastic inter-story displacement angle is mainly used to prevent non structural damage. In this paper, it is concluded that interpolation for safety should be understood as that depending on the degree of importance and difficulty of maintenance for the non structural components, the maximum elastic inter-story drift value can be decided between 1/550 and 1/800 by design personnel. And the two methods of interpolation has no practical significance. Finally, through pushover analysis of the framework model with a small amount of shear wall, we observe the destruction mechanism of this structure and acquire its maximal elastic-plastic drift ratio. The result show that a small amount of shear walls in the framework can well serve as the first anti-seismic line of defence system and has a good anti-seismic performance. The correlation research about the frame structure of a small quantity of shear wall have an important theoretical guiding significance to the seismic design.
