The northern of Shanxi province, is a typical semi-arid climate area, with little rainfall for the whole year. The ability of water conservation and accumulation is so poor, it is the most hydropenic region in Shanxi. But it is rich in natural resources and called China's Kuwait. With the development of coal chemical and coal mining industry,the economy of this region grows quickly. The population increases greatly for a mass of labor flock in and the river ecosystem is under destruction with plenty of waste water discharged into the river.This study selected the Kuye river as research object across the Shenmu. From the natural morphology and hydrological characteristics of the Kuye river in the shanxi province,we studied the water environmental capacity of Kuye river using A one-dimensional mathematical model of river water quality based on the analysis result. The main achievements are as follows:(1)Analysising the data get from 5 monitoring section in the river,we find that the water of 4 sections are ? and only one is ?.The west part of the river is light pollution,but only accounts for 80%,and need to pay more attention.(2)The discharging data of Kuye river shows that the COD capacity of HengYuan?Dixian and South of shenmu are very high and account for 66.25% of the whole pollution. Drain outlets with high NH3-N are Dianta?Huashan Bridge-. Huashan Bridgeland Xinghua Tan and account for 88.64% of the whole pollution. These drain outlets is very impotent to control the pollution in Kuye river.(3)From the calculate result we get the water environmental capacity of COD and NH3-N are 1313.75t/a and 59.38t/a. If reserve ratio by 90%, Kuye river environmental capacity of COD and NH3-N can use 1182.38 t/a and 53.44 t/a. Kuye river COD over its environmental capacity, if nothing is done, must be cut 864.89 t/a, the reduction rate was 42.25%; NH3-N is less than its environmental capacity, the whole don't need to cut, but still need to control some control unit.(4)If taking the measures that Water diversion and reduce emissions in this study,the amount of COD and NH3-N will decrease 664.64t/a and 14.09t/a. And the environmental capacity can increase 46.39t/a and 1.59t/a.Though not reaching the standard,the water pollution is greatly eased,which show the effectiveness of these measures. It is a good choose to take these measures.
