In recent years, our insurance industry has been in a rapid and stable development phase. It has features of comprehensive coverage and low security for medical security system. As a necessary component of social medical security system, commercial health insurance get government's vigorous support from related industry policy and tax preference. However, our commercial health insurance is still in a initial development stage with lots of potential. Meanwhile, there is an obvious problem is our economy development, i.e. the developing gap between eastern, central and western regions. Among different provinces, the development level and scale of eastern regions outweighs those of central and western regions. The need of commercial health insurance is affected by development levels of different regions and also impedes the progress of social medical security system. This study uses many research methods, such as literature review method, comparative analysis method and combination of theory and empirical analysis method to analyses the needs of commercial health insurance from different regions. For data collection, the study uses macro date for many years. The paper is divided into three parts. In theory part, it explains the category and classification of commercial health insurance. It also explains related theories and possible influence factors. In status analysis, the study analyses the different development of health insurance in eastern, central and western regions. Based on the macro and micro data, we analyze people's health level, premium income of commercial health insurance, insurance penetration and insurance density in different regions.
