With the continuous development of the domestic capital market and steadily push forward of the market-oriented reform of interest, traditional deposits and loan business is facing with unprecedented challenges in the process of development. Bank’s payoff space is gradually squeezed, and the dominant position of the spread revenue is threatened in commercial Banks. It is difficult for commercial banks to widen profit margins only rely on traditional deposits and loan business. Commercial Banks have to adopt kinds of methods to increase income. To develop vigorously in the intermediary business is becoming one of the important measures.In recent years, China’s commercial Banks have gradually increased the development of intermediary business. However, there are still many shortcomings due to the lack of scientific guidance and good operating mechanism. At present commercial banks should take measures based on the overall development objectives and requirements, and combine with the change of internal and external business environment. The measures including enact scientific and feasible development strategy, complete the system in order to ensure the continuous growth of the intermediary business.Combining with the relevant literature of domestic and foreign scholars and economists, this paper analyses the intermediary business’s background and present situation of China’s commercial banks, and points out the importance of intermediary business for transformation of commercial Banks. On this basis, one of the four major state-owned commercial Banks A in H city was selected as the research object. This paper studied the development of intermediary business in recent years, analyzed its current existing problems from overall and details, and analyzed the causes of the problems. It includes the narrow scope of business, a single product category, ability deficient od new products promotion, tardy increasing of fundamental intermediate business income, weaken advantages of opportunity type products, lack of effective market positioning and follow-up service failed to follow up. Besides, it suggests to establish a sound regulation of intermediate business, detailed product-driven strategy, adhere to the asset-light development path, stimulate the county and the network of intermediary business development potential, and actively expand customer, strengthen the follow-up services, strengthen incentives measure, focusing on the cultivation of professional talents, and promoting the ability of risk prevention and control is beneficial to the development of the intermediary business in H city.
