Petroleum is essential to national economy. Gas stations are terminals of refined petroleum sales, which are closely related to the economic development and people’s lives. The number of gas stations is growing as a result of urban motorization and considerable profits. This paper tries to study gas station expanded location by improved set covering model.This paper reviews similar studies from the gas station location and network topology problem; sums up the gas station site selection principles, gas stations and location factors, gas stations demand forecasting methods. Then, from the aspect of city regional development, this paper defines the coverage radius combined with standards and the buffer analysis, analyzes the nature of city gas station’s location by buffer analysis, select the proper locations and establishes the expanded location model. The model considers the region’s population, ribbon distribution, car ownership, trip rates and other factors to estimate demands, estimates the service capabilities of individual gas stations according to refuel time,. In that given coverage radius influence locations and sizes of gas stations, improved set covering model adopted “the strategies of different regional with different coverage radius”, determine the location and size of the expanded gas stations, make the city a more rational layout space station. Lastly, the paper studies case with the actual situation in Changchun and applies the Lingo to solve model.The paper presents gas station expanded location model based on set covering, which is with some reference to solve the problem that gas stations expanded location lacks of quantitative methods in urban development.
