Scope changes are inevitable in instrumental product development projects, which can result in cost and time problems. So effective change control is necessary. Change assessment is one of the key points in change control. According to the result, the change can be approved or rejected and the plan can be revised. Many project managers are trying to study on the methods of scope change assessment in complex projects and to improve them. Because it is helpful for increasing the success rate and implementation efficiency in instrumental product development projects. This is an important factor which makes an instrument producer become more competitive. We analyzed the current status of the project scope management and the change control in the instrumental product development projects in F Company. And then we found several problems in scope change assessment. The key point in this thesis is to solve these problems and help to improve the scope change assessment. Based on design structure matrix, we studied how the impacts from scope changes pass through the project activities and how to quantify them. Then we can count up the whole cost and time impacts on the project. With the applying of earned value management, we can analyze and compare the efficiency of the project before and after change. It can help the project manager revise the project plan properly. After these studies, we concluded several methods for scope change assessment in instrumental product development projects, and applied them in Project VSMG successfully. The result shows that the expected cost and duration after the scope change are both close to the actual ones. It proves that these methods are both feasible and effective. So they may become a reference for the company and project managers. |
