High power millimeter gyro traveling wave tube(Gyro-TWT)features high power,wide bandwidth,high efficiency.It's increasingly applied in microwave weapons,food sterilization,industrial testing.To achieve the good performance of Gyro-TWT in testing and application,the high voltage pulse modulation power supply is needed to provide Gyro-TWT with energy.According to the requirement of the project,the overall schemes of the high voltage pulse modulator is firstly proposed in this paper.In order to reduce the difficulty of design and compress the volumn of the power supply,the power source of the high voltage pulse modulation power supply is composed of four inverters.Each inverter has one transformer to transmit power.The inverter,the control circuit of PWM,the modulator,the drive circuit and the control circuit for modulator are also described in detail in this paper.In the design of high power source,the working principle of full-bridge inverter is firstly introduced,and some improvement is implentmented to optimize the output index.The main improvement include the zero voltage switch technology and the auxiliary circuit in the front and back bridge arm of full-bridge inverter.The power loss of the switching process is reduced by the soft switch technology,and the auxiliary circuit enlarges the range of zero voltage switch.In the design of high voltage pulse modulator,the series-connected solid-state switch is selected as the topology of high voltage modulator.After the analysis of conventional driving method of modulator,a new driving method is proposed based on the advatanges of the servel traditional driving methods.The cost and volumn of the modulator is decresed,and the stability of the modulator is also improved by this new driving method.Finally,the soft-switching experiment,signal testing of driving circuit,high voltage pulse experiment and arcing detection experiment are completed with the high voltage pulse modulation power supply.With the design and optimization of the power source and modulator of high voltage pulse modulation power supply,the power supply features compact volumn,low cost,high power density,high effiency,wide range of load,wide range of pulse-width and frequency.The design of the high voltage pulse modulation power supply is significiant for the good performance of Gyro-TWT.
