In recent years,with the rapid development of science and technology and the continuous improvement of the intelligent requirements in modern society,an unprecedented boom appears in the field of artificial intelligence.And the visual measurement,one representative technology,will be applied in all aspects of life.It is a necessary requirement of achieving automation to apply the visual technology to the concrete system of distance measurement,which is also an important development direction of the visual industry.Combining the image processing technologies,this paper deeply studies the machine vision ranging system which can achieve the automatic range measurement by dual camera to get pictures.Through the analysis two imaging models of linear and nonlinear to understand the principle of ranging.A complete ranging system including camera calibration,image preprocessing,stereo matching and other parts.System adopts the calibration method which takes the checkerboard as reference to obtain the interior and exterior parameters of camera and then correct the distortion parameters.Image preprocessing is not only the prerequisite for stereo matching,but also an important means of improving measurement accuracy.In this thesis,Harris corner detection is adopted to extract the key information,and the improvement of this algorithm can also solve existed problem of the threshold is difficult to determine and contrast is too low in images.Stereo matching is an important part of the distance measurement system.In order to get a better match effect,this thesis will use a new algorithm of combining census transform and SAD stereo matching.This algorithm can not only deal with the repeated area,but also has strong anti-noise and robustness and it can effectively improve the matching accuracy.With all the operations above,the design of the distance measurement system has been completed by combining with the imaging models of the cameras.During the process of the measurement of the objects with camera's ranging system,3d coordinate data of any point of the object to be measured could be got.What's more,by means of data processing,can get the distance between the object and the camera,thus achieving the goal of the cameras ranging.Besides,the optimizing of ranging accuracy has been realized by the combination with the matching algorithm,which achieves more accurate ranging effect.
