Synthesis And Characterization Of The Polyester Resin With Highrefractive Index

Abstract/Summary:
In recent years,the requirement of performance of the displayers becomes higher,under the premise of the rapid development of the displayer industry,the surface of the displayer could be modified such as coating with thin layer of polymer resin to improve the visibility and recognition of the displayer.This kind of polymer resin should have the following excellent properties:(1)high refractive index;(2)good adhesive property;(3)simple coating method,no pollution;(4)with the performance of Hydrophilic-Lipophilic.Therefore,the polyester resin with the above properties was synthesized and its structure and properties were also studied.The aqueous emulsion of polyester resin was prepared and the stability of the aqueous emulsion was characterized.Firstly,the polyether polyol was synthesized with bisphenol-S and propylene oxide by the method of phase transfer catalysis,and then polyester resin called group R were synthesized with different proportion of dimethyl naphalene-2,6-dicarboxylate and polyether polyols which were synthesized by the method of transesterification-melt polycondensation;Secondly,the synthesis of polyester resin which named group P were synthesized by using different proportion of polyether polyol and SIPM,and the influence on refractive index of polyester resin by SIPM was also studied;Thirdly,added 2,2’-Dithiodibenzoic acid to the reaction system to prepare group Q of polyester resin,and studied the effect on polyester resin refractive index of 2,2’-Dithiodibenzoic acid;Finally,stable aqueous emulsion of three groups polyester resins were prepared.Then three groups polyester resins and their aqueous emulsion were studied by using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR),600 M nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer(1H-NMR),gel permeation chromatography(GPC),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA),nanoparticle size analyzer,spectrophotometer and abbe refractometer.The results showed that the refractive index of polyester resin in group R was obviously improved with the increase of dimethyl naphalene-2,6-dicarboxylate,but the increase of polyester resin refractive index was not obvious when the amount of dimethyl naphalene-2,6-dicarboxylate reached a certain amount.And the color becomed darker and darker,which was unfavorable to the optical properties of the products.The addition of SIPM in the group P was unfavorable to improve the refractive index of polyester resin,so the amount should not be too much.The refractive index of polyester resin in group Q was well improved when added a small amount of 2,2’-Dithiodibenzoic acid.However,the oxidation of 2,2’-Dithiodibenzoic acid would deepen the color of product,which is not good for product.The refractive index of three groups of polyester resins above were all over 1.6,which belonged to materials that have a higher refractive index.They basically met the requirements.The thermal stability of polyester resin was good,the temperature was above 350°C when the weight loss was 5% and the glass transition temperature was above 100°C.At last,aqueous emulsion of polyester resins were made by using Tween-80 as emulsifier.Average particle diameter and polydispersity index were measured before and after long setting,and the results showed that they have good dispersion performance and stability.
