In a college or university,data is an important resource for guiding instruction and improving student learning.A backup and recovery strategy is necessary to protect the critical data against data loss incidents.Based on Swift cloud storage,this thesis explores how to design and implement a backup and disaster recovery system for vSphere data center being deployed in Guangzhou Light Industry Technician College where the author works at.According to the demand of Guangzhou Light Industry Technician College,we diagnose performance problems in the existing systems.This thesis firstly provides an overview of factors affecting performance in them.Two major factors affect their performance.The first is how to do better in storing and retrieving the data.The second is how to analyze the VMDK files which are the main backup files of vSphere data center.In view of the repetitive nature of the backup data,files are divided into blocks,and the hash values of the blocks are calculated.The blocks are uploaded to the clouds after deduplication and compression in order to reduce their volume.The Swift,which is suitable for storing large unstructured data,provides a flexible,scalable,and highly available distributed object storage service.By integrating Swift cloud storage with VMware v Sphere,this thesis presents an efficient solution to design a backup and disaster recovery system.The improved system has the following functionalities,such as a backup module,a data storage module,a data reduction module and a RESTful API interface via Swift and vSphere for docking.The optimized design of Swift for vSphere data center provides a high availability,distributed data center backup environment based on cloud storage.Using the disaster backup system,we deploy the backup and restorage testing in Guangzhou Light Industry Technician College data center.The result shows that the average deduplication ratio can reach 94%,and the compression ratio reaches 34%.This shows that the newly-designed system is suitable for the needs of anti-disaster backup of the data center.
