Recent years, with the development of electronic devices towards more sophisticated and highly integrated direction, electronics seems encounter a bottleneck caused by the size limitation of devices. There is a trend that the integration of devices becomes photonic. In order to achieve miniaturization and high-density integration of photonic circuits, people have made some attempt and finally found one of the solutions – using surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs).SPPs can provide some amazing effects such as field localization, namely the fields near the interface are confined to a tiny area with exponential attenuation from the interface, which may break the diffraction limitation of light. As the same time,SPPs may enhance nonlinear effect at the interface. Many current research works on SPPs are mainly based on the interfaces formed by metal and achiral medium. While in this thesis,we are confined ourselves to discussion of the case linked the nonlinear interface formed by the metal and chiral medium. In this thesis, the nonlinear characteristics of SPPs in the single interface between metal and dielectric chiral media(MC type)is investigated.Based on the Maxwell equation, constitutive relations the relation between electromagnetic fields is established through F field method. The nonlinear dispersion relation)are obtained for waveguide of MC type and sandwich waveguide(MCM type and CMC type. The distributions of electromagnetic fields in corresponding cases are given for the cases of equal components and unequal components. The relationship between frequency of field fluctuation and nonlinear coefficient is analyzed and the critical points near which the fluctuation occurs are estimated. The dispersion curves for MC structure and MCM structure are drawn and the role of nonlinear coefficients and chiral parameter are revealed. The polarization state of the fields via Stokes parameters are described.Through the comparison of energy distributions the interaction of nonlinearity and chirality are demonstrated in the chiral medium near the interface. And the influence of nonlinearity and chirality of the propagation distance are given.
