Abstract/Summary:
Inefficient fitness is a major problem facing sedentary people to stay healthy. With rapid development of intelligent wearable devices, all kinds of wearable fitness products emerge endlessly, as records of data like steps, trajectory, heart rate and fuzzy evaluated fitness are accepted by the public gradually. However, existing wearable devices present a polarization in experience of secondary fitness—one is ineffective auxiliary due to single function, the other is cognitive difficulty caused by extreme complication;meanwhile, features like single type of wearable devices and non-open source restrict the possibility of secondary development, as well as public’s appeal of adornment of wearable production.As for the status quo, this paper, targeting at sedentary people like white-collar workers, students and drivers that need fitness, designs smart watch with sports fashion element in appearance by training method of effective fitness assisted by heart-rate data.The core of this paper lies in the issue of functional design and appearance design of fitness assisted by smart watch, as target and method set before exercise, interactive content during exercise, method of interaction and frequency of feedback are covered.In order to design smart watch better, we carried out a series of research on sedentary people: user interviews, fitness scene simulation and experience investigation, and then came up with feasible production design plan on production design of smart watch.Combined with design principle of fitness products in past research and current situation of products, this paper determined the design target of this product is assisting users to exercise effectively, as well as realizing better interactive experience and wearing experience. Providing friendly setting mechanism, smart feedback mechanism and realizing appearance design with fashionable element of sports are important ways to achieve this goal. Finally, by using available technical resources, we created prototype of smart watch with fashionable sports appearance for assisting fitness.Contributions of this paper are as below:1. We find by user study that: users need timely encourage feedback and warningfeedback during exercise process. Encourage feedback is more effective in way of voice, while warning feedback is more effective in way of vibration.Although little individual difference exists between the encourage content and feedback method, time for encouraging and the way of feedback are quite diverse for different situations and users, as customization is the only way for seeking common ground.2. In the appearance design, two design ideas for smart watch and five differential-outstanding design points of are summarized, research method of Kansei Engineering is introduced and smart watch design method targeting at sedentary people is proposed.3. Design and realize smart watch for assisting fitness. Through heart-rate signals collected by heart-rate sensor and interactive module, functional module and output module defined in this paper, a creative assisting fitness way facing sedentary people is proposed.
