Dual-beam base station antenna is applied in the mobile communication system more and more widely.With the increasing number of mobile subscriber,the standard three sector site configurations have been unable to satisfy business requirement.With the shortage of spectrum resources,the distribution of base stations is more and more intensive,which makes people pay more and more attention to the design of multi-beam antenna.The dual-beam antenna can make three sectors’ cell split into six sectors.It also can increase the network capacity by using frequency multiplexing.Embarks from the practical application,this paper studies the design technology of dual-beam base station antenna.Firstly,an overview of the research background and significance on multi-beam antenna was demonstrated.Meanwhile,its history and achievements were presented.Then,this paper studied the dual-beam base station antenna which is based on luneberg lens and based on Butler matrix respectively.In the research of dual-beam base station antenna technology based on the luneberg lens,an improved equal thickness method was used to design the section size of the lens in this paper.Also,this paper proposed a new method to improve the radiation performance of the antenna.In the research of dual-beam base station antenna technology based on the Butler matrix,the antenna in the form of traditional array was designed firstly.And the antenna was tested.Then,one kind of radiation element was designed to improve the cross polarization.And in order to improve the radiation performance,the form of the array was changed.Next,by designing the Butler matrix,the antenna could meet the requirement of the dual-beam forming.Finally,the phase distribution is optimized to make the beam shape on the vertical plane of the antenna.For the practical use of the product,finally,a prototype of a two beam base station antenna based on Butler matrix was fabricated.According to the test results,this antenna had good performance,and had practical value in the mobile communication system.
