With the development of computing technology-related applications,the computing architecture requirements for memory performance are increasing.However,memory appears a sudden increase in leakage power consumption with storage density increasing.In order to break through the bottlenecks of traditional memory on performance,many new storage technology research gradually rise.Among these new storage technologies,the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy spin transfer torque magnetoresistance random access memory(PMA STT-RAM)is the most possible to be the alternative of static random access memory(SRAM)as on-chip cache for its nonvolatile,large storage density and large endurance.The technical problems confine the process of chip production and it is difficult to determine the effect of PMA STT-RAM as the cache to entire computing system by measuring statistic result of real chip specific characteristics.Therefore,the only way to solve it is simulation on virtual system.Because traditional simulation evaluation software is only applicable to symmetric volatile memory and the evaluation process and principle of non-volatile memory and volatile memory are different,the traditional simulation evaluation software don't applied to the emerging PMA STT-RAM technology,it cannot complete the entire simulation of the computer system and unable to simulate a storage structure of PMA STT-RAM in energy consumption,delay and area.Even some of the new storage technology assessment software also cannot work well because of the development of structure of new storage technologies.Therefore,how to design a effective evaluation scheme and how to modify the evaluation software on the basis of existing research to analyze the impact of PMA STT-RAM on-chip cache to entire computing architecture have become an important research topic.In this paper,we analyze the computing architecture of computer system and carry out targeted changes according to the storage performance and traditional storage technology of PMA STT-RAM non-volatile memory basing on the existing simulation evaluation software.This paper designs and implements the new unit memory circuit structure and array device layout structure,so as to get the accurate PMA STT-RAM evaluation software platform and the simulation evaluation program.At the same time,the simulation of the asymmetric access process is realized in the simulation software of the computer system,and the aim of the simulation of the system using PMA STT-RAM is completed.This paper introduces an process of the three stages which realize simulation from the low-level PMA STT-RAM unit characteristics to the middle-layer on-chip cache array and finally the upper level of the computational architecture.Each stage introduces the simulation details and the theoretical basis of evaluation.By examining the simulation results of the computer system using the PMA STT-RAM as the cache,this paper analyzes the influence of the new storage technology on the computer system in terms of the execution time of the program and the energy consumed by the on-chip cache and expound this new storage technology has a huge potential as on-chip cache in the future.The proposed software optimizes the assessment process of traditional assessment techniques to demonstrate the performance and structural characteristics of new storage technologies in the form of data.The proposed simulation architecture can be a reference for the simulation of the memory process,which can promote the development of future nonvolatile memory in the process of replacing the cache.
