With the rapid developments of Compass navigation system, mobile terminal devices and intelligent facilities, there are raising higher requirements of antenna design technology. In this paper, navigation terminal antenna, handset smart antenna and near-field beam-forming antenna array are studied. Three representative array antennas used in different fields are designed and the main research contents include:1. A small 2×2 antenna array for Compass satellite navigation applications is designed based on an integrated design process. The dimension of the small array is only 120mm × 120mm. The measured and simulated results are in a good agreement.and a good performance has been achieved. In contrast with the traditional method,the separation between elements can be arbitrarily assumed in the integrated design process, which significantly reduces the size of the array.2. A new smart antenna system for handheld devices is proposed based on the optimization of the power transmission efficiency between two antennas. A RF circuit is proposed which is adjustable with the control voltage. The simulations and measurements show that the design achieved the expected requirement that the radiation pattern can change within a certain angle and strengthen the gain in the desired direction.3. A near-field beam-forming antenna array for smart shelf applications has been designed based on the methods mentioned above. Both the simulation and measurement show that a flat-top electrical field distributions occurs in 170mm above the array. When a RFID tag test system is deployed,the number of books with RFID tags on the bookshelf can be accurately identified.
