With the development of new technologies such as big data and cloud computing, data interaction in the data center network becomes more and more frequent. However, traditional data center network cannot fully adapt to current development situation. As the software defined network (SDN) become popular, it turns into a hot research point by introducing SDN into the data center network to solve the problem which it currently meets. Because optical fiber communication is used in data center backbone network and there is few controllers which can support optical communication in these open source controllers of SDN, it is a research topic to develop a control platform to support optical communication in the process of applying SDN to data center. At the same time, the location of SDN controller can affect the performance of the data center network, so the placement of these SDN controllers must be considered when introducing it into data center.In the development of control platform, this paper study detailedly the design framework and the coding architecture of OpenDaylight which is an open source SDN controller. At the same time, the OpenFlow version 1.0 protocol and extension to it are discussed in detail. On the basis of the above research, this paper designs and develops a software defined optical network controller platform. Through the re-developed of OpenDaylight, the OpenDaylight-extention can support optical fiber port and wavelength division multiplexing, and the key codes are given in this paper. During the experiment, this paper uses Agent to generate a few optical switches which communicate with controller platform. And Wireshark was used for the analysis of capture of communication process.The final results show that the control platform developed in this paper has high availability and reliable performance.Based on the results of other researchers, a new controller placement model is proposed in this paper. This model can resist single point failure(SPF) and guarantees the load balance of all controllers. This multi-controller placement scheme is to assign two controllers for each switch, one is called master-controller and the other is named slave-controller. The switching nodes are controlled by the master-controller before controllers meet SPF. However, when a controller is in trouble, the switching nodes managed by the fault controller are connected to the slave-controller which configured in advance, and load balancing is considered along the way. Simulation results show that this scheme improves the survivability of control plane and achieves load balance during normal and failure scenarios.
