Marshall Mcluhan is a distinguished scholar in Canada in twentieth Century, and Regis Debray is a very fruitful media scholars currently. They use the macro perspective to study the phenomenon of information communication, and put forward their own subversive views.Mcluhan's concept of media technology directly led to the rise of the media ecology school, and Debray's concept of media technology contributed to the birth of a new subject.Through the comparison of the two scholars, the paper finds out that they have similar places and different places in the study of media.Obviously,Debray's perspective of media,to some extent, draws lessons from the tradition of the media ecology school, but also criticizes the errors of Mcluhan's views. In fact, there is a complementary relationship between the two scholars' media technology concepts.Mcluhan's media studies focus on the individual, biological, intuitive experience of the part,Debray's focus on the media is focused on the overall, social, rational abstract part.Consequently,Mcluhan called for the use of the comprehensive thinking to replace the the kind of segmentation and the mechanical thinking from era of the printing. And he thinks human will move towords individual,non-centralized,and retribal era.Debray jumped off the idea of technological optimism, put forward the relevance of technology and culture,as well as the consensus crisis of modern politics. In the end,I make a reflection on the main points of the two scholars.
