As a ramification of computer graphics,non-photorealistic rendering has got a maturing theoretic development with an increasing number of scholars devoting to relevant researches.Paper-cut,as a folk intangible heritage in China,is a kind of art created with paper as its processing object and using scissors or nicking knives as its processing tools.Because of its requirements on fantastic cutting skills,exquisitely carved paper language and stress on the pattern of silhouette,paper-cut has become a kind of unique artistic form.The paper-cut of Peking opera facial make-up is the intersecting art product of Peking opera facial make-up and paper-cut,by which both the special pattern and the hand cutting craft are followed as a perfect pair who will bring out the best in each other.It is a challenging study field which is relatively newly emerging.Because handmade paper-cuts have the shortcomings like inefficiency,complicated process for modification,and inconvenient conservation of final product,this paper put forward a kind of design method for paper-cut of Peking opera facial make-up.After deep analysis on a large number of existing paper-cuts,the patterns are divided into independent patterns and composite patterns according to the number of their component elements.The database for independent patterns is constructed through subdividing Bézier curve,the complex patterns are realized by curve matching.The database for composite patterns is constructed through the scaling operation,gradient modification and symmetric operation of independent patterns.In addition,enriched filling effects enable users to lead in suitable patterns according to their own needs and get a filling effect automatically generated by inputting the parameters.The greatest innovation in this paper is that the artistic construction principles are used for generating the patterns of paper-cuts,so as to enrich the simplex design,ornament the overall outlay and beautify the paper cutting effect.To get a better simulating effect of handmade paper-cut,the paper texture is also considered for the design of facial make-ups.Based on the analysis on the details of the composition and styles of facial make up patterns,B-spline curve is used to build the vector pattern database for facial patterns;as for the decorative pattern,copper-coin patterns generated by terminal adjustment and angle control;the effect of contour pattern is determined by controlling the bending of profile curves and the shape of filling pattern.For a design of paper-cut facial make-up,users can adjust the size and outlay of the required pattern they picked out from the pattern database.Then a paper-cut design of Peking opera facial make-up with realistic paper texture will be generated by using image fusion technique to integrate the facial make-ups and the texture created by Ashikhmin natural texture synthesis algorithm.Because of the interactivity and practicability of the method studied in this paper,a favorable simulating effect is achieved after persevering experiments.Not only overcome the shortcomings of handmade paper-cuts like inconvenient conservation and irreversibility,this method also significantly shortens the creating period of traditional paper-cut and even promotes the spread and innovation of the folk intangible heritage.
