Phased array antenna is widely used in the field of military,astronomy,and in modern communication system.The above-mentioned systems are the applications of phased array antenna in the far field radiation characteristics.Recently,the application of phased array antenna in the near field radiation gradually attract more and more attention.Near-field focused array antenna can be like a lens to focus the electromagnetic energy to an arbitrary point in the near field,which reduce energy waste in space.With the development of communication industry and people paying more and more attention to electromagnetic pollution,near-field focused antenna is more and more important.This paper conducts a subject of the research and application of phased array antenna being used in the near field focusing.This article mainly includes the following parts:Firstly,this paper briefly introduces about the research background,significance of focused array antenna and the research development status at home and abroad.To bring out the novel near-field focused arrays with pattern reconfigurable antenna,theory of the phased arrays and the traditional methods for achieving near-field focused antenna are described in detail.And the advantages of the thought of the novel antenna are introduced in detail,too.Secondly,the 4 × 4,6 × 6 and 8 × 8 focused array antenna are proposed and designed,the design process of the simulation model of the novel near-field focused array antenna is presented in detail.All of these models are designed with pattern reconfigurable antenna unit,and the novel focused antenna is contrasted with traditional focused antenna on focusing performance.From the results,we found that the larger the focused antenna is,the greater difference between the focusing gain of the novel focused antenna and traditional antenna is.It's amply demonstrated that the novel near-field focused array antenna has more advantages.Thirdly,this article selects the 6 × 6 novel near-field focused array antenna to be fabricated and measured.And the results show that the measured results perfectly agree with the simulated results.It effectively proves that the method of the traditional near-field focused array antenna combining with the pattern reconfigurable antenna is very feasible.
