With the rapid development of science and technology,computer graphics and computer-aided design(CAD)have been widely used in many fields.Whether in scientific computing and industrial design,or simulation,virtual reality,computer games,or even other applications,it is inseparable from the digital representation of three-dimensional model.Three-dimensional model has a variety of representations,including mesh surfaces.Triangle meshes are commonly used to describe models.Compared with triangle form,quad meshes have more advantages in geometric modeling,surface,texture,and finite element and other applications.How to achieve quad meshes with high quality,high efficiency,and automated from triangle meshes,which is the research topic focused by academic and industry.Therefore,the research on quad remeshing from triangle mesh is the study which has significant theory sense and practical sense.The main content of this paper is quad remeshing based on vector field.We focus on the mesh representation,global parameterization based on vector field,and quad mesh extraction.The goal of the study is to improve the quality of output quad mesh.Analyzing the shortcomings of the existing methods about global parameterization and quad mesh extraction,we present an adaptive approach to extract quad mesh.The experimental results show that the adaptive quad mesh extraction method proposed in the paper dose improve the quality of the output quad mesh.Specific contents of this paper are as follows:First of al,the paper studied mesh representation in remeshing.We studied the loading of input mesh files,and selected array combined with adjacency matrix as the data structure of input mesh data.In order to satisfy the requirement of multiresolut io n representation,multiresolution hierarchical nodes has been designed,together with implementation of nodes merging,so that multiresolution representation could display by changing color values.Secondly,the global parameterization techniques based on vector field have been studied.With the basis on direction field theory,vector field smoothing and global parameterization were discussed and experimented.According to the experimental,the effects of MIQ smoothing method and extrinsic smoothing method were analyzed.As a result,extrinsic smoothing was chosen as the implementation method of global parameterization based on vector field.Finally,an adaptive quad mesh extraction method was proposed.By the assistance of IFAM method,the adaptive quad mesh extraction method was improved and implemented,with the premise of automatic operation and the purpose of raising the quality of output mesh.The process of adaptive quad mesh extraction method was described in detail.According to the evaluations,including number of quad faces,approximate rate,average angle,singularities rate and running time,the proposed method and IFAM method were compared in the experiments.In the end,the conclusion drawn from the research is that the adaptive quad mesh extraction method in this paper has higher quality than existing IFAM method.
