Due to the rare earth elements with unique electronic structure that make rare earth materials with good optical and magnetic properties.The researchers usually keep rare earth elements into nonmagnetic semiconductors in order to design dilute magnetic semiconductor materials,which have the magnetism,optics,and semiconductors properties at the same time.Copper oxide is a kind of non-magnetic semiconductor materials which is Suitable to be the host material.It can make the system at the same time has excellent optical,electronic and magnetic properties when we are introducing the cerium element into copper oxide semiconductor.This material has more application prospects than copper oxide semiconductor material.Undoped and Ce doped CuO dilute magnetic semiconductors are synthesized by a gas-fog phase chemical deposition method and subsequent heat treatment method in this paper.Cerium elements as the impurity atoms are injected into the lattice of copper oxide main structure?The rare earth ions with magnetism inject into CuO semiconductor materials,the impurity ions will occupy lattice vacancy of the crystal and uniformly distribution.Undoped CuO and Ce doped CuO dilute magnetic semiconductor materials for its optical properties had been studied,Ce doped CuO dilute magnetic semiconductor improve the strength and scope of visible light absorption comparing with CuO semiconductor,Ce doped CuO dilute magnetic semiconductor materials and copper oxide semiconductor material for their direct band gap were 1.68 e V ? 1.75 e V respectively.The band gap of Ce doped CuO dilute magnetic semiconductor decrease when Ce doped in CuO.Ce doped CuO magnetic characteristics of material were also studied.Ce doped CuO semiconductor has the room temperature ferromagnetism,the saturation magnetization of Ce doped CuO particles reached 0.04 emu/g.The magnetic of Ce doped CuO semiconductors mainly comes from 4f electron's indirect exchange of cerium atom.Three structure models has been optimized and calculated spin state density with the first principles calculation method.It has calculated that the magnetic moments are provided by the oxygen vacancy and Ce elements doping.The magnetic of Ce doped CuO dilute semiconductor mainly comes from the f orbital of cerium atoms which produced 1.099 ?B magnetic moment.
