By using bibliometrics analysis and content analysis, two college physics education journals College Physics(CP) and Physics and Engineering(PE)were selected to study the characteristic of high cite and high download articles, which based on the whole articles from 1980 s to date in CNKI database. The relationship between cite and download was analyzed to find out the main reason under the circumstances that articles spreading by Internet.It's generally recognized that high cite articles represent the academic quality and high download articles represent the social value of article. Distribution of high cite article(cite number?10) in two journals indicated that the lower the cite number, the more the article present. Article number and cite number were increased and then decreased with time go on. Analysis of first author indicated that most were one-time author; the cooperation and collaboration were very high. The distribution of column showed that“teaching discussion”,“teaching study”and“physical experiment” were the dominant columns in CP, while the “physic and engineering” and “physical experiment” in PE. Most high cite articles in CP belonged to teaching study column, while it belonged to the frontier and review column. Further analysis to the articles types of teaching study and physical experiment in both journals indicated that all the teaching study article belonged to electromagnetic, for the physical experiment articles, most belonged to optics in CP and electromagnetic in PE.The high download(download number?300) article distribution of two journals showed that most articles' download number were less than 400. The article number decreased with download number increasing. When download number was above 700, the article number increased. The distribution of year, author, column and type in high download article were roughly the same as high cite article. Most high download article of both journals in teaching study type were electromagnetic and optics in physical experiment type.The Pearson'relationship tests indicated that the relationship between cite number and download number was weak, which implicated the factors are complex. Under thecircumstances, that articles spreading by Internet, articles with different aims, disciplines,types, databases and the matthew effect all have influence on cite number and download number.
