Many real world objects exhibit certain kinds of symmetry, such as rotational symmetry, mirror symmetry or fractal symmetry. While strict symmetry is rare,we can still apply analysis and editing to real world objects to explore or improve the available symmetry.Human face is a typical and important target for symmetric analysis and editing. With the recent rapid development and ubiquity of commercial 3D acquisition devices such as Microsoft Kinect, obtaining 3D human face model becomes easy and inexpensive, making the symmetric analysis and editing of 3D faces more important. In this paper,we propose a robust tool for analyzing the mirror symmetry of 3D human face models by exploiting the features of human faces. This enables the evaluation of per-vertex symmetry and symmetry-based face editing.Experiments show that our method is able to generate better results than general symmetry analysis algorithm on human faces.
