In the Internet era,chips have been everywhere,and followed by the of Internet era of all things,the use of the chip will continue to rise.At the same time,Artificial Intelligence,Data Mining and so on need the support of powerful computing.They all lead to the energy consume of chips rises rapidly.Scientists predicted that,by 2040,the world’s energy will not enough for the computer.Of course,we will find solutions for this problem,energy efficient computing is one of them.With chip manufacturing technology continues to improve,the transistor size continues to decrease,the power supply voltage continues to drop,the energy consumed to completing the same operation has been declining.Razor technology reduces the chip’s energy consumption and improves the energy efficiency by reducing the safty margins in digital integrated circuits.In this article,the basic theories of Razor technology is described firstly,then the emerged important Razor technologies.Based on these technologies,the Error-Counter Razor technology has been put forward.Correcting the delay error by means of error propagation,the Error-Counter Razor technique can be applied to the large scale integrated circuit,and correcting the delay error at the expense of one clock cycle loss when delay error occurs,it reduces the performance loss of the pipeline due to the delay error to the lowest.Combining the local clock gating method to correcting the delay error,eliminates recalculation,the energy consumed to correcting the delay error is very small.The Error-Counter module is introduced to control the error propagation,simplifys the error propagation control.Then the structure of the Razor Flip Flop and the timing is detailed.Then taking a simple linear pipeline and a non-linear pipeline as examples,the timing of delay error correction is analyzed.Then a FIR filter is designed in the standard 0.18 um CMOS Technology.After circuit synthesis and mix-simulation,at the voltage supply of 1.6V and error rate of 5.5%,when compares the FIR filter which is Based on the Razor technology proposed in this paper with the standard FIR filter,the energy consumption reduces 22.7%.The Razor technology proposed in this paper reduces the energy consumption of the circuit,and improves energy efficiency,achieves the design purpose.
