With the commercialization of 4G,research of 5G has been the focus in the field of mobile communication.Universal Filtered Multi-carrier Technique(UFMC)is a hot candidate waveform,which shows low out-of-band emission and high time-frequency efficiency performances.It can replace the waveform Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing(OFDM).Internet of things(IoT)and machine type communication(MTC)will play an important role in 5G.Large numbers of machines and sensors with different traffic types will communicate with each other and with humans,so small packet communications attract more and more attention from academic circles.This thesis mainly studies the application of UFMC in small packet scenarios.Firstly,the principle of UFMC is presented,and other candidate 5G waveforms Filter Bank Multi-carrier(FBMC)and Resource Block Filtered Orthogonal Frequency-division Waveform Multiplexing(RB-F-OFDM)are introduced briefly.Then OFDM,UFMC,FBMC and RB-F-OFDM are compared in these three aspects:Power Spectral Density(PSD),Block Error Rate(BLER)and Instantaneous-to-Average Power Ratio(IAPR).In a small packet scenario,simulation results show the time-frequency efficiency of UFMC is higher than OFDM and FBMC with short bursts.So UFMC is a good choice for a system targeting to include an option for short burst transmissions into the overall design.In order to solve the problem of multi-user detection in small packet scenarios,combinations of multi-carrier waveform solutions and multiple access schemes,such as UFMC-FDMA,UFMC-IDMA and UFMC-SCMA are proposed.IAPR of UFMC is high.The nonlinearity distortion may cause large out-of-band radiation.To further reduce IAPR and enable more reliable communication,an IAPR reduction method Discrete Fourier Transform-Spread UFMC(DFT-S-UFMC)is proposed.Simulation results show that IAPR of DFT-S-UFMC is lower than UFMC.At last,the system realization of UFMC-IDMA and UFMC-SCMA is introduced.LTE link level simulation platform is constructed to compare BLER performance of UFMC-FDMA,UFMC-IDMA and UFMC-SCMA in a small packet scenario.The simulation results demonstrate that the BLER performance of UFMC-SCMA is the best and UFMC-FDMA is the worst under the same conditions.
