Left-handed material refers to a class of composite structure or composite material made by artificial, whose electromagnetic properties are different with natural material. Left-handed material refered is a class of material which has both negative permittivity and negative permeability in certain frequency bands. Using these features of left-handed material, we can apply it to the antenna design to achieve better performance. With the development of modern wireless communication technology, the antenna device has more requirements, Such as antenna miniaturization, multi-frequency, broadband and high-gain designing are becoming a common requirement of communication devices.First, we study the method to achieve Left-handed material. By studying the structure of SRR and SR, wo proved the structures of Left-handed material can own both negative permittivity and negative permeability at the same band, we also studied the structural parameters of SRR and SR which can determine the double negative band of Left-handed material, and thus we can design the suitable size of LHM structure as soon as possible when usind in antenna application.Secondly, we using loading method designed a miniaturized and dual-band antenna. In this paper, electrically small loop antenna used as a radiating antenna, electrically small loop antenna is a magnon-type electrically small antennas, we can achieve the antenna work in 0.64 GHz and 2.56 GHz contemporary while loading magnetic resonance SR and passive resonant LC structure of left-handed material structure, the reflection coefficient is-25 dB and-38 dB, we achieve a subwavelength antenna in the 0.64 GHz uniquely. The test results of the antenna agreed well with the simulation data, meeting the design specifications.Then, this article adopts the method of loading left-handed material cladding structure, designed two kinds of high gain microstrip antenna: SR cladding microstrip antenna and SRR cladding microstrip antenna.The bandwidth of microstrip antenna remained unchanged. Compared to the ordinary microstrip antenna, the load of SR cladding microstrip antenna's gain increased 1.9dB, the width of half power decreased 18°; loading SRR cladding microstrip antenna's gain increased 2.6 dB, the width of half power decreased 28°. The loading of left hand material cladding can obviously increase the antenna's gain, reduce the width of half power and prove that the left hand material has the role of focusing electromagnetic waves.Finally, we summed up the full text, made some conclusions, and proposed the future research directions.
