Terahertz technology is one of the hotspot of scientific research currently, which has attracted much attention with application in spectroscopy, communication and imaging, etc. In order to develop and exploit terahertz frequencies sufficiently, the problem of signal transmission must be solved, as good signal transmission is indispensable foundation for any practical terahertz systems. However, according to the references can be found currently, the technology of high-performance terahertz transmission line is not mature, and low-loss planar transmission line is still lacking especially. Therefore, on the general analysis of microstrip line loss variation at terahertz frequency, a terahertz planar transmission line with the characteristics of low loss, ease of integration, and ease of engineering realization is proposed in this paper. The main work and achievements of this paper can be summarized as follows:1. Terahertz wave and the current situation of terahertz transmission structure research are introduced briefly, as well as the theory of traditional microstrip line. On this basis, the microstrip line loss characteristics at terahertz frequency are studied and the compositions of its loss are analyzed.2. Structure with two layers of dielectric is put forward to reduce the loss of the microstrip line. The transmission characteristic of suspended microstrip line is analyzed at terahertz frequency. An upper air double dielectric microstrip line is proposed and is shown to have a smaller transmission loss than suspended microstrip line.3. Taking into account factor of engineering realization, structure with multilayer dielectric is put forward to reduce the loss of the microstrip line. On the basis of research, middle air three layers dielectric microstrip line is put forward and proved to realize in engineering with a small transmission loss.4. Discontinuities of middle air three layers dielectric microstrip line are studied, which prove that middle air three layers dielectric microstrip line can be applied to the actual circuit.
