In order to enhance the spectrum efficiency and throughput in ultra-dense scenario., IEEE starts the standardization of the next generation WLAN protocols in 2013, which is named by IEEE 802.11ax. To this end,IEEE 802.11ax adopts some new technologies in the physical layer,such as OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and higher order modulation. Then it is more and more important for the improvement of efficiency of MAC layer. This paper focuses on research in MAC protocol of IEEE 802.11ax, and we completes its implementation and testing as well.First, we introduce the main problems in the research in MAC of IEEE 802.11ax,review protocol structure,and discuss the main research points. They are the basis of the research in the remainder of the dissertation.In Chapter 3, we propose a multiple access scheme in MAC layer. Multiple access is implemented using OFDMA in PHY which has deep impact on the existing MAC technology based on the single-user access mechanism. In this scheme, we design the interactive process in detail which has compatibility with existing technology in MAC. Simulation shows that it gets higher MAC layer throughput than DCF.In Chapter 4, we focus on radio resource optimization in MAC. We propose two schemes to improve resource optimization. In the first scheme, the multi- user resource indication information is compressed, aiming at using fewer bits to indicate the same information, and the higher efficiency of which is proved by simulation results. The second one is the optimization method of A-MPDU. This method can aggregate fragmentation of MSDU when aggregating A-MPDU, and simulation shows that this method can improve source utilization in OFDMA.The researches above are mainly about the research on protocols of MAC. Chapter 5 introduces the design and implementation of MAC. In this scheme, MAC function is divided into software MAC and hardware MAC. This Chapter describes design and implementation in the wireless driver in the software MAC and the PCIe interface between software MAC and hardware MAC, and achieve the goals through tests.
