In recent years, along with the fast development of the image processing technology and integrated circuit, monitoring industry is booming, also promote the progress of the security business. This change brings better protection to the city. The video monitoring system has moved from indoor to outdoor slowly,but the outdoor video system is affected by the weather. Most of the existing video systems are designed on the premise of the good weather, once the systems are applied to the outside, their quality of the monitoring video will be affected more or less in the case of bad weather, such as rain, fog and snow.This paper designs the system of removing snow from the video that the video is in the snow scene based on FPGA. First of all, this paper selects the algorithm that can be implemented on the FPGA, according to the physical properties of snow and the analysis and comparison about the related algorithm which remove snow from the video. Then this paper analyzes and builds the hardware platform,also familars with the chip's working requirements. This paper designs the required modules in the system using the language of Verilog HDL, and simulates modules using the simulation software of Modelsim. After simulating, synthesize and layout the whole system using the software of Quartus II. Finally, get the result after debugging.This paper designs the system based on the FPGA, mainly using the technology of assemble line and powerful parallel computing ability of the FPGA. First in this paper, deal with the video in advance applying image enhancement and median filter for the image denoising and contrast stretching. It is helpful for the subsequent processing, after doing operation. Then the interframe difference method and background difference method applied to remove snow from the video. This paper designs, simulates and implementes these two methods.The way to remove snow from video based on the interframe difference method need big storage resources of the FPGA. If not, it will appear the phenomenon about leakaging frames. But the way to remove snow from video based on the background difference method don't need many storage resources. It just need to store the background frame. The experiments show that the system can detect the snow from the video timely, also can remove the snow to achieve the goalof the design.
