With the development of the space technology, the security of satellite images is becoming more and more important, especially in military or commercial satellite images. Because the large size of the satellite image,so the large space of encryption algorithm is required.But some traditional encryption technology has the problem of small key space,low safety performance,it does not conform to the requirements of satellite image encryption system.With its good characteristics, chaotic system can be applied to image encryption technology,which can effectively improve the security of satellite images.In this paper, an improved generalized cat map is provided nonlinear processing. The experimental results show that the improved generalized cat map has better scrambling effect;A color satellite image encryption algorithm is proposed. In this algorithm, the satellite image is scrambled by the improved generalized cat map, then the scrambled image is diffused by compound chaotic map. Through the simulation experiment to obtain the encrypted image uniform distribution, the analysis show that the algorithm has key sensitivity, large key space, pixel correlation weak performance, can be very good to protect a satellite image of the security.
