In recent years, with more and more drastic competition in market and more and more various customer requirements in warehousing industry, the timely response and flexib le adjustment of the storage system is particularly important. Intel igent storage system uses mobile rack and intelligent robot, which can greatly improve picking efficency of the warehouse and reduce the operational costs, thus it received wide attention from many entrepreneurs and scholars. Under the above background, we focus on the intelligent storage system, study the dwell point policy of intelligent robot and the warehouse optimized layout problem, the research conclusions obtained have important theoretical and practical significance.On the one hand, for the dwell point policy problem of intelligent robot in intelli ge nt storage system, the layouts of the two kinds of warehouse system(with and without the middle cross aisle) were investigated, the method of statistical modeling was exploited to study three common dwell point policies, different expected retrieval time models were obtained respectively. Then a simulation model was constructed to verify the validity of the models, furthermore, comparisons of the three dwell point policies were analyzed for warehouse systems with different layout and parameters. Our research point out the stay dwell point strategy is always the optimal choice for those two specific warehouse systems. On the other hand, a compact layout optimized scheme of intelligent storage system was proposed. In the premise of a given dwell point policy, considering the retrieving efficie nc y in conjunction with the space utilization, the system performance models of the traditiona l layout system and the compact layout system were constructed. Finally, the influences of different parameters on the performance comparative results of the two systems were inspected by different examples, and results show that in terms of other conditions unchanged, when the warehouse space utilization is a priority, the compact layout have more advantages over the traditional layout for the intelligent storage system.
