Super high speed backplane is one of the key components of the node device in the internet backbone network. The plug-in process of compression connector is very important link for super high speed backplane assembly industry. Because of the sharply increasing of the manufacturing technology for connector, a higher requirements are put forword for the positioning accuracy, reliability, flexibility and automation of the plug-in mounting equipment by the backplane assembly industry. In the thesis, such a mechanical system is studied and optimized for the automatic plug-in mounting machine of the compression connectors.Based on the requirements of the automatic pressing process, an flexible automatic plug-in mounting machine is designed with high rigidity, high positioning precision. The characteristics of the connector pressing process is introduced first, the research status of the rectangular coordinate manipulator is discussed for an automation plug-in mounting machine which is the most advanced. In the thesis, rectangular coordinate system framework is adopted as the main structure of mechanical system. The X and Y axis are driven by linear motors, and the Z axis is driven by servo motor. The modeling software PRO/E is used to establish the 3D model. In terms of mechanical structure checking, the finite element analysis software is used to analyze the statics and modal of the key structure. The analysis results are given for structure optimization design. Finally, the stiffness and natural frequency of the machine are studied. We also take advantage of the virtual prototype technology for the movement simulation, to verify the correctness of the theoretical calculation results of the driving parts.Finally, a prototype of automactic plug-in mounting machine is set up. The positioning accuracy is calibrated. The experiments for automatic compression are carried out. The accuracy of the finite element analysis and the motion simulation are verified.
