Today the application of the wireless sensor networks is very wide. The need of user access in wireless sensor networks is gaining more and more attention. This thesis focuses on user access technology in hierarchical wireless sensor networks. The protocols and applications about user access are summarized, then two new protocols with higher security are put forward in this thesis. The main research content is as follows:(1)Technologies and protocols about user access are summarized and analyzed in this thesis. Security requirements are listed are discussed, then protocols are judged by these standards. Seven protocols are examined step by step, then their advantages and flaws are presented. After works above, we find three key flaws in existing protocols:user anonymity, reveal of information in smart card and secret information update.(2)In order to overcome deficiencies described above, a user authentication protocol with enhanced security and anonymity in hierarchical wireless sensor networks (ESA-UA) is proposed in this thesis. Strong user anonymity is achieved in ESA-UA, and information in smart card is modified so that attackers can not get useful information from the reveal information. All secret information in ESA-UA can be updated without user re-registration, therefore once some secret information is leaked, the security of system can be fixed simply. The security of ESA-UA is proved using Rubin logic. Through comparison in security with other protocols, ESA-UA is outstanding in all the standards mentioned above. The computation load is also within reasonable range.(3)Though ESA-UA is better in security than the other protocols, its computation load is slightly heavier than protocols before. So a lightweight user authentication protocol with security and anonymity in hierarchical wireless sensor networks (LSA-UA) is proposed in this thesis. Though LSA-UA is lightweight, problems in user anonymity and information reveal are also solved. After procedure of LSA-UA is introduced, the security of LSA-UA is proved by Rubin logic. Comparison shows that LSA-UA is lighter in computation load than the other protocols using asymmetric encryption, and also has higher security level than other existing protocols.
