In recent years, as the rapid development of national economy and the process of urbanization, the problem of traffic congestion is becoming more and more serious, which also restricts the development of the economy of the city. Under this circumstance, alleviating traffic congestion has become extremely urgent. As the intersection is the crossing point of urban roads, traffic congestion often occurs in traffic intersection, so it is essential to study the control method of traffic signal of intersection. As the urban transport is random, non-linear and dynamic, the traditional mode of traffic control has not met the need of the current urban transportation. Under this circumstance, applying the intelligent control system into the control method of traffic signal provides useful means for dealing with the problem of urban traffic congestion.The reducing amount of the average vehicle delay time of the intersection is treated as the evaluating indicator, and the fuzzy control theory and Markov model are combined and applied into single intersection signal control system. A kind of multi-phase fuzzy control system based on Markov model is designed to solve the problem of traffic signal control of urban intersection. The research contents are as follows.Firstly, the control of the traffic signal and the basic theory of the fuzzy control method are introduced.Secondly, the traditional fuzzy control method is applied to the multi-phase control of the traffic signal of the intersection. The average vehicle delay time is treated as the evaluating indicator and the realization process of the fuzzy control method is designed in detail. Besides, the fuzzy control method and the traditional control method are compared and analysed on the basis of Matlab Simulation Analysis.Thirdly, according to the disadvantages of the traditional fuzzy control method, combined with Markov theory and fuzzy control, a new kind of improved two-stage fuzzy control method based on Markov model is designed to control the multi-phase intersection. The vehicle average delay time is treated as the evaluating indicator and the implementation of each control module of the improved two-stage fuzzy control is designed in detail. It proves that the improved two-stage fuzzy control method is more effective in the traffic signal control of intersection through Matlab Simulation Analysis.Finally, Nanguan Shizi intersection is constructed by VISSIM to conduct microcosmic simulation of the designed project. It proves that the improved project can deal with the problem of traffic congestion effectively.
