In recent years, the rapid development of cloud computing has attracted wide attention in academia and industry, became a hotspot in research. Virtualization technology is the basic technology to build cloud data center, also is an important means of resource management in a cloud data center. Virtual machine placement is a process of finding the appropriate server for virtual machine to place, and virtual machine placement directly determines the resource utilization rate of the server in a cloud data center, and effects the network traffic of data center. The existing researches on virtual machine placement mostly through virtual machine placement to improve server resource utilization, reduce the energy consumption of the data center, and only few researches on the influence of network virtual placement machine. The virtual machine placement approach of considering network optimization is placing the pair of virtual machine with great communication needs on the same server or two close servers to reduce the traffic in the network.The purpose of this paper is to find an appropriate placement strategy to optimize the network and reduce network traffic, in the premise of high utilization rate of the server, and the little amount of open server.The main work of this paper is as follows:(1) Through the analysis of the existing virtual machine placement strategy of considering. We present a new virtual machine placement algorithm, the algorithm optimization goal is enable inter-server traffic as little as possible. Then on the basis of the algorithm a further optimization is given to improve the server`s utilization rate. Simulation shows that compared with the existing considering network optimization algorithm, our new algorithm can minimize the inter-server traffic.(2) Pointed out that the difference between network traffic and inter-server traffic, and put forward a method to adjust the position of the server in data center, the strategy could reduce network traffic by adjusting the position of the server in the network, under the premise of maintaining the same server traffic.(3) Proposed a new virtual machine placement algorithm based on layer, the algorithm by cleverly clustering, avoid the influence caused by the different server location in the network. The simulation results show that the algorithm could significantly reduce the network traffic in a data center, in the premise of high utilization of server resources in the network.
