Metamaterials is an artificial structure material with special properties, which has extraordinary electromagnetic properties what natural materials do not have. It can be designed by a specific unit structure to flexibly adjust its propagative properties of the periodic structure. In recent years, electromagnetic metamaterials has attracted more and more attention and studies by International Physics electromagnetic academia, as well as hot topics of materials science and information science.Frequency selective surface(FSS)is a planar periodic structure with unique electromagnetic properties, what is the array composed by a plurality of patch units or aperture units. Because of selected frequency and absorbing properties, it has a very wide range of applications, especially in the military field.This paper based on the basic principles and methods of metamaterials structure and frequency selective surfaces, using microwave absorbing properties of metamaterials, on the basis of frequency selective surface, adding metamaterial to construct the RF energy harvesting antenna, making real objects after simulation. Tests show: in the operating frequency of 2.45 GHz, power of 15 dBm, the system is comparing with the no metamaterials system, this system improve the collection efficiency of 39.14%, size reduction of 52.7%, and the attenuation is less than-10 dBm in the 0.1GHz bandwidth range near the center frequency 2.45 GHz.It has much practical value that using EVM-674 chip to design micro power sources, based on radio frequency energy harvesting antenna, and applicating in some micro-power consumption electronic components(such as RFID tag).
