With the progress of science and technology and the improvement of people's requirements to the audio-visual perception, more and more people begin to pay close attention to auditory spatial perception. As the important part of spatial audio technology, the research of spatial hearing has become the focus in the field of multimedia technology. Research around the auditory localization performance of the human ear has attracted increasing attention in spatial hearing field in recent years and has important significance for the development of spatial audio technology.Firstly, the introduction of the research status on the spatial hearing techniques and the important significance of the research on the auditory localization performance of the human ear is given. And then we analyze the auditory localization mechanism of ear. Further analysis are given for several subjective evaluation methods recommended by ITU as well as indicate methods for the perception sound source used in auditory localization test. Based on this, the subjective evaluation method used in this paper is discussed in detail. Combining with the specific sound cage device and wireless audio transmission and receiving test system, the method finally applied on the subjective evaluation experiments. In the condition of far sound field(distance between the sound source and the ear is 1.5m), there are 18 subjective listening experiments are carried out, with horizontal planes with ?=0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45° and vertical planes with ?=0°, 30°, 60°, 90°, and sound sources used 1 kHz pure-tone and white noise separately in each experiment. Subjective used a laser pointer to indicate the perceived direction accurately. A number of 10 subjects are participated in each experiment. All the experimental data are processed and qualitative as well as quantitative description of experimental conclusion has been drawn for the human ear's auditory localization characteristics. At the last, some suggestions on improving the design of the subjective acoustic evaluation experiment is proposed, and the next expectation on further research on multiple aspects of space auditory localization for human ear is suggested in this paper.
