In the age of Internet developing rapidly, there are different kinds of knowledge springing up and the updating rate of knowledge increases exponentially. Thus how to acquire knowledge efficiently, accurately, and quickly becomes a challenging problem. In the area of education, there are a wide range of disciplines and each of these disciplines has its own characteristics. So we can deeply study the relationships between different concepts in disciplines and build a visualization system to enhance the efficiency of learning. On the other hand, a beautiful and layout-reasonable knowledge presentation can have a significant influence on people's learning process. Knowledge visualization technology transfers knowledge or data in the way of displaying graphics, images or animations on a display screen, which may simulate one's learning interests and improve the learning efficiency.In this thesis, we deeply probe the theory and technology for discipline knowledge's visualization. The main work of this thesis is as follows.Firstly, we have an overview of the related theory of discipline knowledge and its ontological features. Based on the general principle of building ontologies, a five-step building method is proposed which considers knowledge's discipline characteristic.Secondly, we define a specific form of visual representation according to the data characteristics of discipline knowledge. Then a technical problem of visualizing the domain ontology data in OWL format is solved.Thirdly, we analyze the graph auto-layout algorithm in the arbor.js visualization framework's source codes. By the way of introducing gravitation into the simulating particle system, we present a solution to the problem that nodes in the force directed graph layout algorithm have the same centrality. Besides, a further solution of optimization performance is made, which is inspired by the simulated annealing algorithm. At last, a contrast experiment is designed to verify the validity and feasibility of this improved algorithm.Based on above research, a discipline knowledge visualization system is developed. There are five main modules in the system. For instance, knowledge data storage module, data query module, interaction events processing module, knowledge resources display module and graph drawing module. This discipline knowledge visualization system is able to show the discipline knowledge series' hierarchical structure and importance of knowledge concepts by drawing a clear and pleasing graph. It will have a promising application prospects because of the significant value in promoting the vigorous development of online education and also in educational informationization.
